Compounding is the preparation of custom medication to fit the unique situations and needs of patients that cannot be met by the current mass-produced medications. This can be done by providing medications to a patient in different forms, that best fits their needs. For example, a patient who has difficulty ingesting a tablet, a liquid for can be formulated and produced to suit their needs. The Pharmacy on Hiland is considered a non-sterile compounding pharmacy, which means we can provide ointments, creams, liquids, or capsules. Non-sterile compounding is defined as the process of combining, admixing, diluting, pooling, reconstituting other than as provided in the manufacturer’s labeling.
Compounding pharmacies use pure, pharmaceutical-grade ingredients when they mix a compound drug. All pharmacies that perform compounding must be registered with the FDA.

OUR COMPOUNDING PHARMACIST CAN PREPARE:
○ unique dosages containing the correct dose of medication for each individual patient.
○ dosages of medications in forms that are not commercially available, such as transdermal gels, troches, creams, ointments and lollipops.
○ medications free of ingredients that can cause issues such as dyes, sugar, lactose, or alcohol.
○ combinations of multiple compatible medications into a single dosage that is easier for administration and improved compliance.
○ medications that are not current mass-produced medications.
